A Chinese tourist has sparked public outrage after being caught smoking on a public bus in Jeju, South Korea, and throwing the cigarette butt out the window, an incident that has gone viral online.

Recently, a netizen (referred to as A) posted a video of the shocking event on social media, captioning it, “Is this real? A Chinese tourist in Jeju just lit a cigarette on the bus.” In the footage, the woman can be seen casually smoking with her lit cigarette held out of the bus window. The smell of smoke quickly filled the bus, prompting an elderly passenger to shout, “Who’s smoking here! In this day and age?! Tell her to get off the bus!”

In response, the bus driver halted the vehicle and personally intervened, saying, “You can’t do this here,” in an effort to stop her from continuing. Despite his warning, the woman, who had been flicking ash out the window, nonchalantly tossed the cigarette butt onto the street before the bus resumed its route.

Netizens were furious after the video circulated online, with comments flooding social media:

  • “There was a video of a Chinese couple smoking at G-Dragon’s concert too. Why do they act like this in other people’s countries?”
  • “Throwing a cigarette butt too? How little must they think of our country?”
  • “You couldn’t even hold off for a short bus ride?”

The incident has reignited discussions around tourist behavior in South Korea, with many calling for stricter enforcement and penalties for public smoking violations to maintain public order and respect for local customs.
